Our Story

We’ve been making bagels since 2014, when we happened upon assisting the formidable Fine Bagels whilst living out in Berlin. After packing up and heading back to glorious Yorkshire in 2015, we started up Slow Rise Bagels, bringing authentic, hand-made bagels to the area.

We believe that good things take time and should never ever be rushed. Slow Rise is the way our bagels are made – risen cold and over a long period of time so that they have a full flavour and a characteristic chew to them. We apply the philosophy of slow and steady wherever we can: we believe in building things sustainably and never compromising for the sake of a few saved minutes. Yes, that may mean a queue but sometimes waiting makes all the difference.

We’ve spent the last few years sourcing the best ingredients and perfecting our recipes to now move from deliveries to selling from our very own cafe/bakery in Horsforth, Slow Rise Bakery.

After starting up in Lockdown, we’re now finally ready for sit-in and takeaway of our full product range. We can also make larger orders and cakes on request – get in contact with us via our contact form.

Our bakery also stocks bread from Leeds Bread Co-op on Thursday – Saturday, breads from Moin Moin Backerei on Friday – Saturday and baguettes from Croissant D’Or on Sundays. Pastries are from Croissant D’Or and Moin Moin from Friday – Sunday. In addition, we serve delicious coffee from Third Wave Roasters throughout the week and have a range of gorgeous prints and plants in the shop from Green & Field, WeArePetulant, ElleisDunn and R J Heald Photography. We love what we (and others) create – and hope you enjoy our space and products too.
